What is Aloe Vera?

Aloe vera is a succulent plant that belongs to the genus-group ‘Aloe’ and is found in tropical climates and all over the world. It has been used as a medicinal plant for thousands of years both topically and through ingestion.

The ancient Egyptians wrote about Aloe Vera on papyrus about its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects. In the time of the pharaohs, the Egyptians idealised aloe vera and called it “the plant of immortality”. It can be found written on papyrus describing the anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects. It was named by the pharaoh as the “elixir of eternal life”. Ancient writings attribute Cleopatra’s daily use of aloe vera to her clear complexion and soft skin.

What are the benefits of Aloe Vera on the skin?

Add hydration

The aloe gel is rich in amino acid, lipids, Vitamin A, B, C and E that are nourishing compounds that help to hydrate and moisturise the skin.

Salicylic acid

Helps to clear the skin's surface from dirt, bacteria, and grime that has built up in the skin's pores. This helps improve skin health and appearance. By keeping the pores clean and unclogged, it prevents the development of whiteheads and blackheads.

Reduce hyperpigmentation

The aloesin and aloin active compounds in Aloe help reduce post hyperpigmnetation to the skin and reduce the appearance of dark spots on the skin.

Lignans increase absorbtion into the skin

Lignans are present within the Aloe Vera plant. Lignans are polyphenolic compounds found in plants which increase the absorption of the skin. This can increase other compounds that may not easily be absorbed by the skin.

Sunburn relief

Protect your skin from the sun by wearing a daily sunscreen. Seek shade when possible and wear a hat. Above all. Do not sun bathe. If you do get sunburnt Aloe can have a cooling and soothing effect on a sunburn.

Can l use Aloe Vera everyday?

If you have no negative skin reactions to aloe vera then you can use it every day. Applying a small amount can help treat various skin conditions, including acne, eczema, and sunburn.
